As a note: I am looking for apps that stand out on the Apple TV.  Ported iPad apps aren't really doing anything new.  And some apps might be on the TV, but what is the point when you can do it easy and with more functionality on your phone.  So I am looking for apps that bring something new to the table, or just simply provide a better experience on the TV instead of an iPad or iPhone.

Asphalt 8: Airborne (Free w/ in-app purchases)
#1: Asphalt 8: Airborne
Basically one of the best games on the Apple TV.  Tons of depth that most developers do not put into their games.  Hours, if not days of gameplay.  Every game you are making points to make your car better and cooler.  So many different levels and types of gameplay.  It's a PS3 quality game easily; which means pretty good graphics.  The game has built a really good multiplayer base, so you not just playing against a computer, but your playing against real people, with real leaderboards.

ABC News (Free)
#2: ABC News
Although I am not a fan of the channel myself, they do a great job replacing what you get on your regular TV channel.  The live stream is always a great feature and they have all their on demand content available to watch.  There is also local content for most major cities in the United States.  Not great in that you can watch your local affiliate live; but you do get some of that content on demand.

AirBeam (Free)
#3: AirBeam
AirBeam requires you to purchase a $3.99 app on either an iPhone or iPad.  But what is neat is you can stream whatever you a filming on your iPad or iPhone straight to the TV.  You get audio and video from your device.  All you need to be is on your local wifi network.  There is no setup, just connect with the app open on the Apple TV.   I don't know why you would want this on your television screen, but it certainly seems interesting.

Asteroids: Multiplayer Arcade ($1.99)
#4: Asteroids Multiplayer Arcade
This one comes out of a multitude of Asteroid like games.  I found this one to be the best because of the graphics and the ability to play up to 4 people.  Of course you need the iPhone version in order to do that, but it's one of the only ones that has this ability.  You can beat up on your friends or team up together.  Not hours of gameplay, but shows the potential of what the Apple TV could achieve.

Awesome Trivia ($.99)
#5: Awesome Trivia
Although the game doesn't look professionally built, its got potential to be a pretty fun game for a group of people.  It lets you play up to 5 people by sharing the remote around when it is your turn.  No extra costs as well.  It has a pretty limited selection of trivia though and could stand to have more, but still should keep a group entertained for a night or two.  They update the trivia as well, so more questions and genres should come available.
